Myth #3: All polished finishes have the same endurance.
Myth #4: All polished surfaces should be waxed or laquered if you want it to really last.
Myth #5: All metal polishes can be used on items subjected to heat.
Myth #6: Green or White rouge is the same as jewelers rouge.
Protective-Sealer: Should I wax, laquer or use something else?
Today there is water based acrylic protective-sealer that will keep your finish looking good for a long time. Wax is old technology. It was great when that was all we had, but the new sealers can be used on most painted or metal surfaces and some are chemical and heat resitant.
Lacquers and clear coats discolor with age. In fact they don't really let the metal shine very well. They also tend to crack and become porous. This allows oxidization to start.
Show vehicles want their brightwork to sparkle, aluminum should be sealed to imptove the lustre. With stainless it depends on the quality of finish. Show chrome should never really need more than an ultrafine wax free maintenance polishing. Areas subject to heat should be wax and lacquer free.
